crazy hair.jpgWhat a busy week in and out of the classroom. More of our girls have been sitting scholarships and exhibitions and we remain hopeful of some more positive news soon. On the sports field we have had considerable high profile successes – just look at the double whammy below. Congratulations to them all for their outstanding contributions and performances. I was also delighted to hear how successful our cross country runners were on Saturday. I tried to bi-locate but was drawn heavily to Open Morning, which was the most successful Spring Open Day we can remember. Thirty-three sets of parents looked around the school in three hours.

Tomorrow we jump on a coach at 7am and make our way to Brighton for the IAPS Netball Finals. This all takes place perched above the Channel in the grounds of Roedean School. Spectators – you have been warned!

Next Friday, being Red Nose Day, Godstowe are celebrating by holding our own 'Crazy Hair Day' - the wilder and crazier the better! Girls may wear red ribbons in their hair (and a red nose) but please no dyes or sprays.

space postcards.jpgLodge News

Mrs Pana: Kindergarten children were delighted to receive postcards from the Lower III girls who had all had an exciting jaunt to the planets in our solar system! (There are postman who deliver from all corners of space!!) They shared information  found out about the planets with the Kindergarten children using Publisher 2+ to generate their postcards. They also made a model  from polystyrene balls which they painted to show planet order and size differences. A fun experience for both year groups and a lovely way of sharing knowledge on our common science theme of Space.

Mrs King:
We all enjoyed some delicious pancakes on Tuesday. On Wednesday we talked about Lent and spring cleaning ourselves 'on the inside' in our Ash Wednesday assembly.

Netball Double Whammy!

Miss Herson: The U12 and U13 A teams played in the regional round of the IAPS Netball Tournament last Friday. The U12 team played in a round-robin style tournament against 11 other schools. They had some tough matches and fought hard to win all but two games and draw one. They were therefore runners up of the tournament and qualified for the National Finals. The U13 team faced some very strong schools in their section and had to battle hard in order to win or draw their matches. They were unbeaten which took them to the final where they just lost to Winchester House 6-4. They were therefore also runners up and qualified for the National finals at Roedean school tomorrow. We wish them all luck!

On Wednesday the U12A and U13A went to Wycombe Abbey to play in the district tournament. They both played 7 hard matches in a row and played outstandingly well against Wycombe Abbey, Wycombe High, Great Marlow, Sir William Borlase, St Bernard's and Piper's Corner. The U13A only lost 1 match and were runners up and the U12A were un-defeated and therefore winners of the tournament. Well done to all the girls!

Mrs Reynolds: We've just heard that old Godstowe girl Anna Yeomans, who left in 2004 and is now at York University, has just played her first Lacrosse match for England. Fantastic news!

Get Swotting!

Miss Herson: As the Spring Term is shorter we only have one quiz test this term. This will be Thursday, 17th March. So, Main School girls,  study your quiz book hard this weekend to score lots of points for your colour team!

Mathletics at Home

Mr Ludwick: All girls from Form I to UIII have accounts to use Mathletics at home and at school. We have found that practising maths using this site has proven to be most beneficial. The sections available to girls mirror the topics that we cover each week. If you would like to use Mathletics at home, the address is www.mathletics.co.uk . The girls all know their username and password.

World Book Day Winners

Mrs Evans: More than half of Main School gave me entries for the World Book Day badge competition, so it has taken a long time to go through them all! Everyone who entered gets a bookmark, so if you haven’t had yours yet please come and see me in the Library.  My Cat by Imogen Sharkey IG

My cat is called Flossy,
She climbs and jumps like an acrobat in the circus,
She’s like a graceful ballerina on the stage,
She is amazing at balancing like a tightrope walker,
She’s also the fastest and smallest cat you’ve ever seen,
She is as soft as an angel’s heart,
Her eyes are like diamonds glistening in the moonlight,
Her teeth are as sharp as rose thorns,
She has claws as sharp as a shark’s tooth,
I love my cat.
I love my cat a lot.

I Hope you all have a good weekend whilst the Boarders enjoy their Exeat. DG
